Last weekend, during an event in the Zócalo, legislators from Morena received criticism for not attending to President Claudia Sheinbaum. Among those who apologized for the incident are Adán Augusto López and Ricardo Monreal, who deleted his social media message.
In this context, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the Senate Board of Directors, reprimanded officials who ignored Sheinbaum during a speech in the framework of the celebration for the tariff exemption of the T-MEC. Noroña highlighted the relevance of the president's message and called not to minimize its importance.
During the speech in the Zócalo of Mexico City, Sheinbaum reaffirmed the collaboration between Mexico and the United States to combat drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl. She also expressed the importance of a relationship based on respect and dialogue with the neighboring country.
After the incident, Manuel Velasco, coordinator of the Green Party caucus in the Senate, was one of the first to apologize. At an event where legislators took a photo without paying attention to Sheinbaum, Noroña mentioned that the president was ignored while greeting another group of people.
Sheinbaum, for her part, reported on the decrease in the crossing of fentanyl from Mexico to the United States starting in October 2024. She also highlighted the importance of combating drug use from its roots and Mexico's commitment to prevent the trafficking of high-powered weapons in the country.
